Meet the Teachers Who Co-Authored DEAL WITH IT! Christina L. Rodriguez
Christina, a teacher at P.S. 171, hails from Staten Island, New York where she lives with her mother, father, and two younger brothers. She was born in 1983 and is 23 years old. Christina, who completed her student teaching in Class 5-310 at P.S. 171, recently received her B.A. in Elementary Education and English Language Arts from Hunter College. Her hobbies include reading, writing, and dancing.
Her writing has been inspired by various writers, both young and old. Christina’s favorite story in the book is “Commuting,” which is about her experiences taking public transportation. She likes it because it sheds some light on how people deal with having to not only take the ferry, but “catch” the ferry. Stacey Shubitz
Stacey, who lives in Manhattan, is a fifth grade teacher at P.S. 171. She was born in Manhattan in 1977. Stacey holds a B.A. in Communication from The George Washington University, as well as a M.S.Ed. in Childhood Education from Hunter College. She recently completed a second master's degree in Literacy at Teachers College, Columbia University. Her hobbies include needle pointing and traveling.
Stacey’s professor, Lucy Calkins from Teachers College, has inspired her writing during the past two years. Her favorite piece in the book is her “Where I’m From” Poem, which was mentored after George Ella Lyon’s poem. She likes it because it was challenging to mentor herself after another poet. However, she feels the poem really captures the places, people, and images of where she’s from.
